ADAC Winter Tire Warning: Avoid These Models

by Archynetys Economy Desk

The rule of thumb applies to winter tires: from October to Easter (O to O), the more profiled tires should be on the vehicle. For many drivers, the appointment of the tire change is approaching. But which models should be raised? After all, the selection is huge. The ADAC regularly gives recommendations.

The automobile club has currently examined 31 tires of the Dimension 225/40 R18 – 14 of them from the lower price range, from the so -called budget category. You wanted to know how these cheap tires cut off, it said. The result is terrifying: eleven tires from this category got a “poor”, so it fell completely.

“Absolute security risk” in the worst tires

Winter tires have to work equally well in the case of dry as well as in wet and winter lanes, for example keeping the lane. The braking distance should also not be too long. In the case of at least one driving task, bad performance had been achieved that the tires had to be classified as poor, according to the ADAC. With these products there is an “absolute security risk” for drivers.

Accordingly, the Syron Everest 2, the CST Medallion Winter WCP1, the Evergreen EW66, the Goodride SW608, the Star Performer Stratos UHP and the Tomket Snowroad Pro 3.

Another tire from this category, the Point S Winter S, only got a “sufficient”. Therefore, one could not recommend it, it said. Only one budget strip made it in the top ten: the Momo W-20 North Pole came the overall grade 2.7 during driving safety-after all, this is a “satisfactory”.

Among other things, the length of the braking distance was tested at 80 kilometers per hour on wet roads. While the Syron Everest 2 came on a braking distance of more than 47 meters, the Momo W-20 Northpoles was less than 33 meters.

Premium models convinced in the test

He was able to keep up with the tires from the premium category, which were also tested. The test winner, the Goodyear UltraPrip Performance 3, came to a braking distance of less than 32 meters. In addition, he also cut off well even in dry and winter road conditions and came to a smooth two. He also convinced the testers with a predicted mileage of over 76,000 kilometers, according to the ADAC.

The Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 landed just behind. The tested tires from Bridgestone (Blizzak 6) and Dunlop (Winter Sport 5) also achieved similar reviews. However, the premium models-as the name suggests-are more expensive than others. The Goodyear and Michelin costs 171 and 177 euros, while the Syron is specified at 126 euros. Incidentally, it is more expensive than the Momo, which was 115 euros.

Especially those who often drive in winter regions should invest in good winter tires. If you only drive a little – especially in moderate zones – and can leave the car standing in extremely winter conditions, you could also use the cheaper, still recommendable, according to the ADAC.
