Two Decades of Impact: Action Cancer 47’s Anniversary Gala
Action Cancer 47, a cornerstone of cancer support and prevention in the Lot-et-Garonne department, is commemorating its 20th anniversary with a special general meeting and gala event. The festivity, held at the François-Mitterrand space in Boé this Friday, April 4th, recognizes two decades of unwavering commitment to patients, research, and awareness campaigns.
A Gathering of Key Figures
The anniversary event is expected to draw a distinguished crowd of approximately 160 attendees, including prominent figures from the medical community, representatives from ARS 47 (Regional Health Agency), and the Coordination and Cancer Center of Cancers. Mayors from across the agglomeration and department, oncologists, and specialists will also be present. Dominique Rousseau, president of the Gironde Committee for Cancer Prevention and Screening, and a long-time supporter of Action cancer 47, will attend as the institution’s godmother.

Yan Baudoux, who has served as president of Action Cancer 47 for the past decade, emphasized the significance of the event. The organization was originally founded by Lucette Lousteau, a former deputy deeply invested in women’s health and breast cancer prevention, who established a dedicated scientific committee known as Female Committee 47.
Festivities and Future commitments
The gala evening promises a blend of reflection and celebration. A film showcasing the association’s 20-year history will be presented, followed by entertainment provided by the Song Box, Trio, and DJ Manu, familiar faces from the Rose Mania gala, which traditionally concludes Pink October, a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness. Pink October events have become increasingly vital, with the National Breast Cancer Foundation reporting that awareness campaigns significantly contribute to early detection and improved survival rates.
The anniversary also serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of Action Cancer 47’s 110 volunteers. Their dedication throughout the year is crucial to the organization’s success. In recent initiatives, Action Cancer 47 demonstrated its commitment by donating €6,000 to the Bergonié Institute in Bordeaux, a leading cancer research center. Further contributions include €2,000 to the Aviron Club de l’Agenais, €2,000 to the aikido club for the creation of a Sport Health section, and €1,500 to Rugby Health.
Over the years, Action Cancer 47 has channeled significant funds into cancer-related causes, with total donations reaching €167,065, including €94,315 in the last three years alone. These funds support a range of initiatives, including research, patient support, and awareness campaigns for various cancers, including colorectal cancer.
Looking Ahead: Continuing the Fight Against Cancer
As action Cancer 47 embarks on its next chapter, the organization remains steadfast in its mission to provide support, raise awareness, and contribute to the fight against cancer in the Agen region. The 20th-anniversary celebration is not only a testament to past achievements but also a reaffirmation of its commitment to a future where cancer’s impact is minimized through prevention, early detection, and comprehensive support.
