Why if the center -right is ahead, could the Aosta Valley not governed?

Unlike other regions, in Valle d’Aosta the regional president is not elected directly, but chosen by the new regional council.

Also this time the main party will be, as it seems from the ongoing bare, the autonomist Union Valdôtaine, who has guided the region for years. The right presents itself in a unique coalition, as at national level. On the other hand, there is no center -left alliance: the Democratic Party and the Green and Left Alliance occur separately, while the 5 Star Movement is part of the coalition called “Valle d’Aosta open”.

The Valley regional electoral system is proportional to a variable barrier threshold. Voters can vote up to three candidates for councilors in the chosen list. There are 35 regional councilors to elect. The list of lists or groups that obtain at least 42% of the valid votes is guaranteed a majority prize of 21 seats. If no one reaches this threshold, the seats are assigned according to the pure proportional. The president is selected through an agreement between the 35 directors.

In the last five years Union Valdôtaine has ruled with the support of the center -left, but secretary Joel Farcoz recently stressed that “we are neither on the right nor on the left, but we carry on pragmatic policies for the region”. In Aosta, for the administrative, the Union Valdôtaine presents itself together with the Democratic Party, with the candidate for mayor Raffaele Rocco, an engineer and former public manager. The candidate for mayor of the center -right is Giovanni Girardini, city councilor in office, entrepreneur and former priest.
