71% of nuclear electricity production facilities in the world are in the hands of only five countries. The United States is # 1 and the others in the five are France, China, Russia and South Korea, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), quoted by 3е-news.bg.
Globally, 31 countries have a NPP. There are 416 nuclear reactors with a total installed power of 376 gigawatts (GW). According to the US Agency for Energy Information (EIA) China is at the fastest growth rate – since 1991, 57 reactors have been launched in the country and 28 more reactors with a total power of 30 GW are under construction. Upon completion of these projects, China will outstrip France by capacity of the NPP.
USA – The largest producer of nuclear current in the world has 94 operating reactors. Nuclear Electricity in the United States represented 30% of global production in 2023.
The development of nuclear power plants for the commercial production of electricity began in the United States in the late 1950s with the commissioning of the nuclear power plant Shippingport in Pennsylvania. Most of the current facilities in the United States were built between 1967 and 1990.
Francewhich is the second world and the first in Europe, operates 57 reactors. In 2023, nuclear reactors in France produced 320 GWH, which is almost 65% of the total volume of electricity in the country. After the World Petroleum Crisis in the early 1970s, the developers built 52 nuclear reactors in France between 1975 and 1990 to strengthen their energy security.
Russia It has 36 reactors with a total power of 27 GW, and four more are in the process of construction. EIA notes that the State Corporation Rosatom modernizes its reactor park, replacing the old RBMC with more powerful and effective-VVER-1000 and VVER-1200.
South Korea It is currently operating 26 reactors and two more are under construction. The state -owned company Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power is an international supplier of nuclear technology. It has built the Barka NPP in the UAE and will be a technology supplier under the Dukovo NPP extension project in the Czech Republic.
