A family residing in Castel di Lama (in the province of Ascoli Piceno) is admitted to the emergency room of the Ascoli Piceno hospital for a suspected food poisoningprobably linked to consumption of a salmon product purchased in a Eurospin chain store, recently subject to a precautionary recall for a possible botulinum contamination.
Father, mother and two children involved
It’s about four people – father, mother and two minor children – who have shown symptoms compatible with intoxication: intense abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting. The alarm was triggered by the woman, who, informed of the collection of the lot via the media, contacted 118. The health workers then arranged for her to be immediately transferred to hospital.
Once they arrived at the emergency room, all members of the family were subjected to clinical investigationsincluding specific tests to check for the possible presence in the blood of toxins attributable to botulinum.
The consultancy of the Bergamo Center
In the meantime, the healthcare staff has activated a consultation with the Bergamo poison control center, which suggested direct coordination with the Ministry of Health. Should the results of the tests confirm the presence of the toxin, a report has already been prepared emergency protocol which provides for the urgent transfer of the antidote from Rome via air ambulance, to allow its timely administration to patients.
