Four Perm Polytechnic students were among the winners of the scholarship competition of the charitable foundation named after the Russian dollar billionaire from the Forbes list, Vladimir Potanin. Now, until the end of their studies, they will receive a personal scholarship.
“The Vladimir Potanin Charitable Foundation announced the results of the scholarship competition. One thousand master’s students from 71 leading universities in Russia were recognized as winners. Among them are four students of the Perm Polytechnic University. From March until the end of their studies, they will receive a monthly personal scholarship in the amount of 30 thousand rubles,” the PNIPU press service told URA.RU.

The university added that this year a record was set for the number of participants. 9,106 people submitted applications, which is a third more than last season. After technical selection, 4,016 works were accepted for expert evaluation. 2,300 applicants reached the finals, 1,000 of whom won. Among them are 671 freshmen and 329 sophomores.

Perm Polytechnic University was represented by students of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics Kirill Mekhonoshin (direction “Applied Mathematics and Computer Science”), Nikita Pyatkovsky (“Applied Mechanics”) and Alexander Simonov (“Applied Mathematics and Computer Science”). Anton Yukhnevsky, a student at the Faculty of Chemical Technology, Industrial Ecology and Biotechnology, also received a scholarship (“Automation of Technological Processes and Production”).
The competition itself takes place in two stages. The first one is correspondence. It consisted of submitting an application, including a letter of motivation, and a popular science essay on the topic of the proposed master’s thesis. The second round took place in the format of business games, interviews, case solutions and other group and individual forms of assessment.
The Vladimir Potanin Scholarship Competition is one of the foundation’s oldest projects aimed at developing higher education. It has existed since 2000. Its goal is to support active and talented learners to form a community of creative professionals capable of solving social problems. Potanin ranks second in the list of the richest entrepreneurs in the Russian Federation according to Forbes. His fortune was estimated at 27.9 billion US dollars.
