ISLAMABAD: Even though it has been years since India ended bilateral trade relations with Pakistan, there has been no increase in exports, according to the State Bank of Pakistan. After the Pulwama terror attack, the relationship between the two countries further soured. It got worse with last year’s Pahalgam terror attack. The trade through Vaga-Attari was also stopped with this.

But the figures of the State Bank of Pakistan prove that none of this has affected the trade.

Exports to India increased. There was an increase in exports to India during the months of July-January when exports to countries like Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka fell. The bank has released trade agreements with 9 countries namely Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Iran, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives.

The combined trade deficit with these countries was projected to rise by 29.42 percent to $12.28 billion in FY2024-25. A total of 2.30 billion was exported. 17% decline from previous year. Exports to Bangladesh decreased by 10.48% and those to China by 1.02%.

Imports from these countries to Pakistan have increased substantially. At the same time, it was not specified which products were exported and imported.
