Within the different components of the price of fuel in Chile, there are two important components: the value of oil and the dollar.
The first has been somewhat volatile and subject to both production and consumption expectations and the geopolitical environment, both in Venezuela and the Middle East.
According to data from MarketWatch, the Texas oil value (WTI) It reached US$62.02 after the arrest of Nicolás Maduro, now trading at US$60.56 while Brent is at US$65.21, above the US$60 barrier noted at the beginning of the month.
However, The dollar has depreciated considerably in recent weeks. Since December 31, it has fallen around 2.5%, going from around $900 to hitting a low since the end of 2023 at $874.3, favoring gasoline values.
In its report, Enap recalled that it does not set or establish the final fuel prices in Chile, but rather this is done freely by the distribution companies to which Enap sells hydrocarbon derivatives.
In turn, the calculation of estimated fuel variations considered import prices as a reference to the US Gulf Coast and the Mepco and Fepp standards, in addition to other costs inherent to the fuel import activity.
