50 Cent on Diddy Doc & Feud: Response to Criticism

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

50 Cent responded to critics who questioned his participation in the production of a Sean “Diddy” Combs docuseries for Netflix, given the long dispute between the two.

Released Tuesday and directed by Alexandria Stapleton, Sean Combs: The Reckoning is a new four-part documentary that promises to shed light on the “real Sean Combs,” who is currently serving a four-year prison sentence on prostitution-related charges.

In an interview with Robin Roberts on the show Good Morning America50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) was asked to respond to claims that his motivation for making the documentary was more rooted in his “disdain” for Combs than in giving a platform to the music mogul’s alleged victims.

“What they consider a pre-existing fight — going back 20 years — is that I was uncomfortable with him suggesting to take me shopping,” the ‘In Da Club’ rapper said. “I looked at it like I was testing the waters, like maybe you’re coming to play with me. It’s not personal.”

Stapleton added: “I think it’s also important for people to know that this show is not entirely the perspective of the people who didn’t like Sean. We weren’t just trying to get the highlights, the salacious details.”

“The real goal was to tell stories, and not everyone needed to have a complaint to be part of this project.”

The documentary comes months after Combs was convicted in July of flying his girlfriends and sex workers across the country for drug-fueled sexual encounters in multiple locations over many years. He escaped more serious charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy that could have put him in prison for life.

It will also feature two jurors from the Combs trial who, for the first time, will talk about how they reached their mixed verdict.

Throughout the trial, Jackson repeatedly mocked Combs for the shocking revelations that emerged. Following Combs’ conviction, Jackson remained one of his staunchest critics, even writing a letter to the judge before his sentencing, urging him to “take into account the safety of the general public” before “releasing” Combs.

Jackson and Combs were involved in one of rap’s biggest and longest feuds, dating back to 2001. Although they were never close, they had already collaborated on occasional projects during their early days in the music industry.

Their relationship ended up sour due to contract disputes with artists and rival vodka brands.

Sean Combs The Reckoning premieres Tuesday on Netflix.
