42 students from the department who completed their vocational secondary studies last year and who this year begin their journey through higher education will receive financial support aimed at their university enrollment from the Government of Quindío. The item that each one will obtain is equivalent to 4 current legal monthly minimum salaries, with which they will be able to finance this procedure until the assigned resource is exhausted.
To make the implementation of the strategy official, the first Incentives Committee of the year was held on the morning of this Monday, March 16. The director of Educational Quality of the department attached to the Ministry of Education, Ángela María Marín Valencia, pointed out that: “The call was made last year in Educational Institutions to nominate students who met the criteria contemplated in decree 0000981 of November 11, 2026 – which regulates ordinance 010 of April 29, 2014 -, with categories such as the best result in the Saber Pro Tests of 2025, special educational needs, outstanding in artistic or sports competitions, which “They belong to ethnic minorities or who present high economic vulnerability.”
The instrument was highlighted by Víctor Antonio González Arredondo, rector of the IE Jesús Maestro, of Montenegro, who highlighted the opportunities that are opening up for the educational community of the municipalities: “It is very significant since, for example in the case of EI, we are in an area of high social conflict, where boys have little chance of entering university; last year 45 graduated and the estimated figure is that, at this time, 8 students have guaranteed entry, while others are waiting for scholarships given by the municipality as well.”
Although the list of students eligible to receive the incentive amounts to 88, this first committee focused on those who have already been accepted by the corresponding universities -Universidad del Quindío, EAM or La Gran Colombia, for this edition-, while the rest become part of the waiting list for a period of up to 18 months in which they must resolve their respective procedures for admission to higher education institutions.
