After the first day of competition, Domen Prevc has established a promising starting position. The Slovenian took the lead in the rankings with flights of 204 and 224.5 meters and was leading by 14 points at halftime. He achieved both jumps with a shortened run-up, which further underlines his current form.
Lindvik was initially still in the lead

Behind Prevc, the Japanese Ren Nikaido is in second place. Third is the Norwegian Marius Lindvik, who was just ahead of the Slovenian after the first round. This means the race for the medals remains open, even if Prevc is currently the clear favorite going into decision day.

The Slovenian’s dominance is not only reflected in the competition jumps. Prevc had already kept the competition at a distance in training and qualification. At halftime, his lead was more than eleven and a half meters – a clear signal to the competition.
Prevc could break a special record
For Prevc, Oberstdorf is also about a special milestone in ski jumping history. With a possible World Championship title in ski flying he would come closer to Matti Nykänen’s record. The Finn is so far the only athlete to have won all five major individual ski jumping titles. Prevc has already achieved the world championship title and victory in the Four Hills Tournament, is also confidently leading in the overall World Cup and, after the Ski Flying World Championships in Predazzo, still has a realistic chance of winning Olympic gold.

From a German perspective, the focus is primarily on Karl Geiger. The Oberstdorf native was significantly more stable at his home World Cup than he was last in the World Cup. After two rounds, the 32-year-old is in eleventh place, making him the best athlete on the DSV team. In the second round, however, he was slowed down by the wind and slipped back from seventh place.
Strength with no chance of defending the title
However, the first day of competition was less satisfactory for Philipp Raimund, Pius Paschke and Felix Hoffmann. Horngacher cited health reasons for Raimund and Hoffmann: “One reason is certainly the illness that both of them had. They are not currently at the highest level physically.”
Stefan Kraft no longer plays a role in the fight to defend his title. After two rounds, the Austrian is only in tenth place and already around 40 meters behind Prevc. Instead, the hope for the Austrian team is Jan Hörl, who is lying in wait in fourth place and is still within reach of the medal places.
The competition day on Saturday begins at 3:30 p.m. with the practice round. The decisive individual competition starts at 4:30 p.m.
