The peak of homecoming traffic in 2026 took place two days ago. Head of the National Police’s Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, said that the vehicle volume at the peak of the homecoming flow this time was the highest in history.

“The peak of homecoming traffic is the highest in history, approximately 270,315,” said Inspector General Agus at the Jasa Marga Toll Road Command Center (JMTC) Jatiasih Office, Bekasi, Friday (20/3/2026).

For this reason, a number of different traffic techniques need to be carried out to anticipate the high number of passing vehicles for the homecoming trip. As a result, the peak homecoming flow can be controlled.

“There are three treatments that we are carrying out. From closing the MBZ because it is related to conditions. The second is sorry, 1 lane contraflow from (Km) 36 to 47. We are still evaluating again, from (Km) 47 to 48 we are making lane 2 contraflow. From 48 to 70 we are making lane 3 contraflow,” he said.

“Therefore, we can manage the peak current which is quite high so that when we leave kilometers 70 to 414 it runs smoothly. That is what we can say,” he added.

On the same occasion, President Director of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk Rivan Achmad Purwantono said that data as of 06.00 this morning, around 1.6 million vehicles had left Jakarta. This number reaches 48 percent of the predicted 3.5 million vehicles that will leave Jakarta.

“But we need to convey that at 06.00 this morning, of the estimated total of 3.5 million vehicles leaving Jakarta, 1.6 (million) or 48% had left. And the dominance was still towards Trans Java at 54.6%,” said Rivan.

On March 19, the number of passing vehicles had decreased. The prediction for the return flow itself will occur on March 24.

“And even on the 19th, the total number of vehicles fell again, 208,825 vehicles leaving. Hopefully this will be important, the warning is that our prediction for the return flow will be on March 24,” he said.
