Gangwon Sports Dream Tree Festival Concludes with Record-Breaking Performances
Young athletes Shine at the 2025 Gangwon Boys’ Sports Competition
Chuncheon, and Gangneung.”>The 2025 Gangwon Boys’ Sports Competition, a showcase of young talent from across the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, wrapped up on April 5th after four days of intense competition. This year’s event saw participation from 3,807 elementary and middle school students, competing across 31 disciplines.The competition was divided into two parts, with events held in various locations including Chuncheon, Gangneung, Sokcho, and Yanggu.
Dominating Performances and Record-Setting Achievements
This year’s competition witnessed exceptional performances, with a total of 30 records broken across various sports. Swimming led the way with 11 new records, followed by weightlifting with 13. Additional records were set in cycling, roller sports, and archery, highlighting the diverse range of athletic talent within the province. These achievements underscore the dedication and rigorous training of these young athletes.
To put this in perspective,a recent study by the Korea Sports Policy Institute indicated a national average of approximately 15 records broken per similar youth sports competition. Gangwon’s 30 records significantly surpass this average, suggesting a especially strong year for athletic development in the region.
Team Standings: wonju and Yanggu Take Top Honors
The competition utilized a complete scoring system to determine overall winners in two divisions. The results are as follows:

Family Triumphs and Individual Brilliance
The competition also featured heartwarming stories of family success. Three siblings from Hwacheon Elementary School – Jung Ki-sol, Jung Ki-hyun, and Jung Ki-sol – collectively earned an impressive 16 medals in gymnastics, showcasing their exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
Furthermore, several athletes achieved multiple crowns, with 59 individuals earning three or more victories. Notably, Baek Eun-hyuk, a 15-year-old gymnast from Chuncheon Middle School, stood out by securing an impressive seven crowns, marking him as a rising star in the sport.
Looking Ahead: National Competition in Gimhae
The outstanding performers from the 2025 Gangwon Boys’ Sports Competition will now represent the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province at the upcoming national Boys’ Sports Competition in Gimhae next month. This national event provides a platform for these young athletes to showcase their skills on a larger stage and compete against the best talent from across the contry.
