Gangwon Province Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Real Estate Practices

Protecting Residents: GangwonS Proactive Approach to Real Estate Fraud

In a move to foster a transparent and secure real estate market, Gangwon Special Self-Governing province, under the leadership of Governor Kim Jin-tae, is ramping up its efforts to combat illegal real estate activities. The province is implementing rigorous inspections and public awareness campaigns aimed at preventing transaction accidents and protecting residents from fraud.

Targeting Unregistered Brokerage and Misleading Advertising

The core of this initiative involves a targeted inspection of illegal practices, notably focusing on unregistered and unqualified brokerage operations. Working in conjunction with the ‘Real Estate Illegal acting Monitoring Team,’ established in August of the previous year, the province has distributed a comprehensive operational manual to cities and counties, outlining the procedures for identifying and addressing these violations.

Initial inspections will scrutinize the labeling and advertising of brokerage properties. Penalties, including fines and administrative sanctions, will be imposed for unfair advertising practices that involve false, concealed,or reduced disclosure of critical details such as price and area. Suspected cases of unregistered or unqualified brokerage will trigger local investigations, leading to administrative actions upon confirmation of violations.

Our goal is to create a real estate market where transactions are fair, transparent, and secure for all residents of Gangwon Province.

Combating Charter Fraud and Expanding Citizen Services

Recognizing the growing concern over real estate crimes, particularly charter fraud, the province is prioritizing the dissemination of information on major causes and preventative measures. This initiative aims to empower citizens with the knowledge needed to avoid falling victim to such schemes. Charter fraud, also known as Jeonse fraud, has become a significant issue in South Korea, with reported damages reaching millions of dollars annually.

Furthermore, the province is collaborating with city and county councils, as well as the Korea Certified Brokers Association, to promote real estate transaction accident prevention campaigns. A key component of this effort is the expansion of free counseling services provided by real estate agents, ensuring that citizens have access to expert advice and support.

Enhancing accessibility and Building Trust

By increasing the availability of free counseling and actively promoting awareness,Gangwon Province is taking concrete steps to enhance accessibility and build trust within the real estate market. These measures are designed to provide residents with tangible benefits and foster a sense of security when engaging in real estate transactions.
