Arizona Reports First Bird Flu Cases in Humans
Bird flu has made its way to humans in Arizona, marking the first known cases in the state. Two individuals contracted the avian influenza virus while working at a commercial poultry farm in Pinal County where bird flu was detected last month.
According to the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS), both infected individuals experienced mild symptoms, received treatment and have since recovered.
Is Bird Flu Contagious?
While this news is concerning, the AZDHS has stressed that there is currently no evidence to suggest human-to-human transmission of bird flu. The risk to the general public remains low. Human infections typically occur through direct contact with sick or dead birds or their environments.
