While the council currently features an initial group of 13 members, it could expand to 24 in the near future. That said, it will play a critical role in shaping U.S. policy. According to White House reports, the panel is co-chaired by David Sacks, the administration’s AI and crypto czar, and technology adviser Michael Kratsios. Their primary mission? Framing artificial intelligence as a defining arena of strategic competition, particularly with China.
This collaboration marks a notable turnaround for several tech leaders. Mark Zuckerberg, for instance, has worked hard to repair his relationship with the government after years of public conflict. Similarly, Larry Ellison—a longtime associate of the president—brings his extensive experience with Oracle and key tech ventures to the table.
Beyond algorithms: Truth and investment
While the technical side of AI is a priority, the council also arrives amidst a push for a national policy that addresses “lawful political expression.” The administration has expressed concerns regarding how AI systems might influence public trust or suppress certain viewpoints. This legislative framework seeks to create a uniform national standard that would override varying state-specific rules.
