Žilina Air Leak: Emergency Declared – Unknown Substance

ŽILINA: City of Žilina today, December 4 at 6:00 a.m. declared a state of emergency after the leak of an unknown substance on Moyzesová street. Residents of nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

The fire brigade and the police intervene on the spot, they have the situation under control, they have secured the surroundings and are carrying out measurements to determine the type of substance.

The city is investigating the origin and nature of the leak, and the public will be continuously informed about further developments and measures.

“Two residents are currently hospitalized. The residents of the adjacent apartment buildings were evacuated – some of them are currently in the premises of the city office and others have gone to relatives,” said the spokeswoman for the city of Žilina Zuzana Ondrášová.

One of the evacuated residents, Lucia from Žilina, described to us what happened: “In the morning we heard a scream, we looked out the window and saw the firemen, then we smelled the smell, got dressed, took the dog and ran outside.”
