Andriy Jermak, the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, has announced that he is preparing to go to the front after resigning from his post due to a large-scale corruption investigation, reports the New York Post. The politician was one of President Zelenskyi’s most important confidants, and regularly appeared alongside him in public.
“I will go to the front, I am ready for any retort. I am an honorable and decent person”
Jermak wrote in his message published after his resignation.
The statement came right after the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) searched his house on Friday. The raid is part of a wide-ranging embezzlement case at the state-run nuclear energy company Energoatom, which is Zelensky’s biggest corruption investigation to date.
The scandal already led to the departure of two ministers: the government’s head of energy and justice was also fired. Jermak did not say when and in what role he would join the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
On the other hand, it can be concluded from his letter that he decided to resign in order not to increase the political burden on the president. “They slandered me, they didn’t protect me, even though I’ve been in Kyiv since February 24, 2022. I don’t want to cause problems for Zelensky, I’m going to the front,” he said.
