Anyone who has seen this film will probably never let their relatives back into the apartment.
For Knut (Helgi Schmid) it is already too late. His girlfriend Karo (Lucie Heinze), with whom he previously had a relationship like from the picture book, actually only wanted to give him a nice 40th birthday. But the party with the parents of the two, their siblings and their young children is increasingly heading for a fiasco. The turbulent social comedy “Celebrate” will be shown on Monday (September 8th) at 8:15 p.m. in ZDF.
Loud silence in noise
Karo and Knut love each other and talk about everything. At least that’s what Knut thinks. Because while she has dipped on a business trip and in the radio hole, he comes across a medical letter. Karo is in the 12th week pregnant and didn’t tell him about it. And she secretly had the likelihood of a hindrance of the baby calculated based on a prenatal test. Knut reads the letter, is shocked and dries up to deafening music alone.
Actually the highest railway that the couple speaks together. However, this is not possible because Karo has invited the assembled relatives to a surprise party with the best intentions. After all, Knut is only 40 years old and the mixed poke of her and he has never met. The festival that he never wanted, but she has just kept secret.
Like apocalyptic riders, the relatives come into the Leipzig old building. Knut and Karo are terrorized by the behavioral little nephew. Knut’s mother, a heavy alcoholic, embarrasses him. Knut’s brother browses the Google reviews of his doctor’s office. Karos brother and his wife spread a bad mood. The parents go to East-West confrontation and a strange guinea pig squeaks in the middle.
A touch of Loriot
In all the noise and the crying, Karo and Knut try to overcome their speechlessness and decide whether they are still a couple. There is simply too much unspoken, many old conflicts, suppressed emotions and injured egos. And so the evening is getting worse. Will the two be the dream duo of once again?
Julia Becker’s comedy “Celebrate” puts his finger in all wounds that are known from his family reunion: from the topic of controversy progressive upbringing to climate debates to macho brats and the jokes of old fathers.
A top -class ensemble also beyond the main actors – in supporting roles, Victoria Trautttmansdorff, Matthias Brenner, Steffi Kühnert and Jörg Schüttauf are among others – gives all of these mini dramas of the film almost painful, as is still known from old Loriot films.
