On Saturday evening, ZDF looks at the record with heart.
Dresden Prohlis is often considered a focal point – but if you look closer, you will see a district that not only has problems, but also people who stick together. Around 17,000 people live in Prohlis, many in GDR prefabricated buildings. The district was once a showcase project. Today, many struggle with unemployment, social exclusion – and the feeling of being overlooked. The new one «ZDF.reportage» with the title “Dresden Prohlis – Record with Heart” by Steven Melzer can be seen on Saturday, November 22nd, at 5:35 p.m.
Claudia Druschke is a self-employed caretaker. Someone who likes to get involved. Tear down, clear out, haul. She describes herself as a “woman for rough things”. Cleaning is also part of her job, but it is her least favorite thing. She gets up around five o’clock, drinks her coffee and enjoys watching an episode of “Red Roses”. Then it starts. She is often out and about from early in the morning until late in the evening. If someone needs help, Claudia is there: “It’s hard for me to say no,” she says, and you can tell that she prefers to help others before thinking about herself. Even as a child she was more interested in “boy stuff”.
As “the all-rounder,” she tries out a lot of things as a caretaker and is pretty good at most of them. “At first I wanted to call myself ‘the all-rounder’, but that sounds so arrogant.” She rarely takes breaks. Not because she doesn’t need it, but because others are often more important and there is always something to do. Furniture, clothing or household appliances are often left over from apartment clearances. She gives a lot of things away to people in the neighborhood who have little. Claudia isn’t rich either, but “money isn’t everything in life.” Her work is often physically challenging, but she doesn’t complain and would never give up her job. “I’ve been working hard since I was a kid. I’d go crazy if I didn’t do anything.” Twice a week she stands on the soccer field after work and trains a youth team. There isn’t much time for yourself. “What for? I have enough to do,” she says.
