YouTube Music Tests New Now Playing screen Design

The streaming service is tweaking the layout, moving key controls and experimenting with the placement of thumbs up/down buttons.

The “now Playing” screen on YouTube Music may soon look different. Since November of 2024, YouTube Music has been testing a redesign, which is still in development. The latest iteration involves relocating the thumbs up and down buttons.

In contrast to the 2023 design, the updated interface positions the play/pause, next/last, shuffle, and repeat controls below the song title and artist. The timeline maintains its central location but adopts a blockier appearance, aligning with the main YouTube app’s aesthetic. The carousel, housing various actions, is now at the bottom, incorporating the Song/Video switcher, a feature first introduced in February.

According to reports, the newest “Now Playing” design shifts the thumbs up/down buttons from the carousel. Instead of a combined pill-shaped button, they are presented as two distinct circular buttons positioned to the right of the song name and artist.
