On the 14th, Hwang Seong-hye, Vice President of Google Korea‘s External Cooperation Policy, attended the National Assembly’s National Assembly Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee’s audit of government affairs and made this statement in response to a question from People’s Power Party lawmaker Choi Hyeong-du, who asked why 12,000 comments posted on content that criticized President Lee and his wife were deleted.
Rep. Choi pointed out, “If you look at Google’s community guidelines, it says that ‘debates related to high-ranking public officials or leaders do not constitute a violation of policy,'” and added, “The public must have expressed various opinions about the president and his wife appearing on such a program, but it was deleted.”
In response, Vice President Hwang explained, “I understand that there are rules called community guidelines for content comments, so they are deleted when they are violated. Spam, repetitive comments, and violent language are deleted, and a very large number of comments are automatically deleted.”
He added, “We are also giving the authority to manage content to those who manage the channel.”
