A new initiative aims to provide parents with comprehensive information regarding the national vaccination program.

The campaign, named “Your child your choice,” is a collaborative effort between GGD Zeeland, the municipality of Middelburg, and various partners. It seeks to empower parents to make informed decisions about the national vaccination program, which protects children against 13 serious infectious diseases.

To mark the launch, alderman Willemien Treurniet of the municipality of Middelburg presented Ilse Kuijpers, youth health care manager of GGD Zeeland, with specially designed information tubes at the consultation office in Arnemuiden.

That means that the risk of outbreaks of diseases such as measles and polio are still realistic.”

the significance of vaccination was underscored by a recent measles infection on May 21 in a student at a Middelburg primary school, ending a ten-year measles-free period. This incident served as a stark reminder of the need for preventative measures.

“Vaccination is and remains a personal choice. It is therefore of great importance that parents receive information that is actually, understandable and respectful. I am proud that as an alderman I can hand over the specially developed cube boxes to GGD Zeeland.”
