Badminton’s “Empress,” Ahn Se-young, known for her defensive prowess, is intensifying her offensive capabilities under the guidance of doubles legend Park joo-bong. This strategic move aims to solidify her position at the top of the world rankings as she prepares for upcoming challenges.

At the Jincheon Athlete’s Village, the training is rigorous. Park Joo-bong meticulously observes Ahn Se-young, offering precise feedback to refine her technique.

“You have to take one more short step instead of a long step.”

Ahn Se-young diligently repeats the drills, spurred on by Park Joo-bong’s encouragement.

“One more time! One more time! One more time!”

This intensive training is designed to maintain her dominance in women’s singles.

“Oh!”

“I had a lot of thoughts that I was fighting alone before, but now I think I’m continuing to believe in the background.”

Focus on Offensive Betterment

“I couldn’t survive only by defense. In the attack, I have a lot of power, so I think it’s getting better as I have a lot of practice that is just accurate and a chance ball.”

The training regimen has shifted its focus. Following her defeat by China’s Chunwi Pay in the Singapore Open quarterfinals last month,Ahn Se-young,traditionally a defensive player,is now prioritizing offensive enhancements.

“I couldn’t survive only by defense. In the attack, I have a lot of power, so I think it’s getting better because I have a lot of practice that is just accurate and a chance ball.”

Ahn se-young is also analyzing her own matches to identify areas for improvement.

“Now that the other person analyzes me a lot, I have a lot of thoughts about playing. I think Cheonsu Pay is the best player. I think I want to upload that much.”

Ahn Se-young is set to compete in the Japanese and china Open next month, followed by the world championship in Paris, where she aims for consecutive wins after her Olympic gold medal victory in August.
