The United States and Iran resumed negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue on the 6th local time.

It has been eight months since talks stopped in June last year when Israel and the United States carried out airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Reuters and AFP reported that the two countries’ delegations began talks in Muscat, the capital of Oman, this morning.

On the American side, White House Middle East envoy Steve Wittkoff and President Donald Trump’s eldest son-in-law Jared Kushner attended.

From Iran, Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi came out.

Iranian media such as Mehr News Agency and Press TV reported that the meeting will be held indirectly through Omani officials rather than face-to-face between representatives of the United States and Iran.

The United States has been pressuring Iran to resume nuclear negotiations, suggesting the possibility of military intervention following the anti-government protests in Iran that began in December last year.

The biggest issue in the talks is Iran’s uranium enrichment activities.

The United States demands ‘zero enrichment’, which completely abandons uranium enrichment, but Iran strongly rejects this, seeing it as a sovereignty issue.

Iran’s position is that uranium enrichment activities should continue, even with the participation of third countries in the Middle East.

The United States also wants to address issues such as Iran’s ballistic missile development program and support for proxy armed forces in neighboring countries in the negotiations.

On the other hand, Iran drew the line that other defense and security issues other than its nuclear program cannot be on the negotiation agenda.

Before the start of the meeting, Minister Araghchi said through

He then emphasized that he would not accept unilateral compromise, saying, “Equal status, mutual respect and interests are essential conditions that must be maintained.”
