Gwangju City’s Uchi Park Management Office announced today (6th) that it recently signed an ‘Animal Funeral Service and Aftercare Business Agreement’ with First Pet Co., Ltd.
The park explained that it has established a funeral and after-care system so that animals that end their lives at Uchi Zoo can complete their final procedures in a respectful environment.
According to the agreement, the two organizations agreed to ▲ support funeral and cremation procedures for deceased animals at Uchi Zoo, ▲ cooperate in post-management such as transportation and management of remains, and ▲ provide advice and exchange information regarding improvement of animal welfare.
Separately, Uchi Park plans to make efforts to convey the value of respecting animal life, such as by working with citizens to create and operate a memorial space for Hippo, the hippopotamus who passed away last year.
At the Łódź Zoo, 20 to 30 animals of various kinds die from natural causes or diseases every year.
Seong Chang-min, head of the Łódź Park Management Office, said, “The Łódź Zoo is expanding its scope beyond a simple exhibition space to include care, protection, and responsibility for animals until their last moments,” adding, “I hope that this agreement will serve as an opportunity to naturally convey the value of respect for life to citizens.”
