XManager: Spotify Free on Android – ReVanced Alternative

xManager is back and fills the gap left by ReVanced: How to get a working Spotify freemium patch for Android again.

Spotify has forced the ReVanced project to remove the Spotify patches with a DMCA request. With constant blocking of workarounds, the future for modded Spotify apps was uncertain. But now the xManager team has released a new, working patch. It is based on a further developed version of the original ReVanced code.

Spotify took legal action against ReVanced

Like us a few weeks ago have reportedSpotify has taken legal action against the ReVanced project. Previously, there was constant technical competition in which developers repeatedly circumvented Spotify’s server-side blocks. The DMCA request ended that and forced ReVanced to pull the patches to unlock Spotify Premium from its own GitHub page.

xManager continues work alone again

xManager was originally known for providing users with directly installable, modified Spotify APKs. ReVanced focused on releasing only the tools (patchers) and instructions (patches) in the hope that this would keep the project within the legal framework.

In contrast, xManager offered a more convenient, direct download of the modified app. They later collaborated with ReVanced to jointly release open source patches for Spotify.

So when ReVanced removed its Spotify patches, the future for Spotify freemium on Android was uncertain. xManager now fills this gap and continues its service. They rely on a further developed and open source version of the original ReVanced patches.

A look at the legal situation

xManager

In the DMCA request against ReVanced, Spotify based its legal argument on one point in particular: so-called “client ID spoofing”. Spotify explained that forging the client ID was a circumvention of technical protection measures and therefore constituted a copyright infringement. The actual modifications to the app that unlock premium functions were only mentioned in passing.

Das ReVanced-Team then sought legal adviceto test this argument. The interesting thing about xManager’s new patch is that it appears to do away with client ID spoofing. If this is true, Spotify’s original main argument could fall flat.

Current status and known limitations

In a recent announcement, the xManager team points out that the new version is not yet perfect. It is mentioned that issues such as unwanted song skipping may still occur. But this apparently only affects users whose accounts have already been recognized as modified by Spotify in the past.

It’s also important to note that server-side premium features (like downloading songs) cannot be unlocked. Despite these limitations, there is a working and reliable method to use Spotify Freemium on Android again.

It’s that easy to get the xManager version

For most users, the xManager app remains the easiest method. It enables the direct installation of an already modified Spotify version without the user having to patch it themselves. The app can be downloaded from the official website at.
After installation, you can now always download and install the current, patched Spotify version in the app.

It's just as easy to use the xManager patches in ReVanced
Three simple steps and you can use ReVanced Manager as usual

The manual method: Patch yourself with the ReVanced Manager

If you want to control the process yourself instead, you can still use the ReVanced Manager. You have to add a new patch source to the program because the official source no longer contains the Spotify patches.

To do this, go to the app’s settings and activate the switch for “Use alternative sources”, and then select “Alternative sources”. Now all you have to do is… anddea instead of revanced use as a patches organization and that’s it!

You can now patch and install Spotify as usual using the ReVanced Manager. This requires an unmodified Spotify APK file. You can download this from APKPure, for example.

Patching yourself also has a big advantage: you can decide for yourself which features you want to patch. You can even create your own theme or change the provider for lyrics.

With xManager there is again a reliable source

With ReVanced’s temporary withdrawal from the Spotify modding scene, xManager fills an important gap. Users now have a central and reliable point of contact to modify their app. The xManager team has been known for its consistency in the past.

It remains to be seen how stable the new patches will remain in the long term. Spotify is known to continually work to detect and block modified clients. For the moment, however, they seem to have found a working, uncomplicated and regularly updated solution.
