Xairos Systems Secures $1.9 Million SBIR Contract for Quantum Optical Clock Synchronization
In a significant milestone for quantum technology applications, Xairos Systems has secured a $1.9 million grant under the Direct-to-Phase II SBIR contract from SpaceWERX. This investment aims to facilitate the development of a revolutionary Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) solution that integrates quantum and optical clock synchronization. This critical technology could redefine secure communications in environments where traditional GPS is unavailable, particularly addressing the Alt-PNT Challenge.
Collaborative Efforts Fuel Technological Breakthrough
Xairos Systems is partnering with Luminous Cyber Corporation and Eritek Inc. to achieve this ambitious goal. Recently, they completed a Preliminary Design Review for a field-deployable terminal equipped with Quantum Time Transfer (QTT), advanced clock ensembles, and compact optical communication technology. This collaboration brings together diverse expertise to bring innovative solutions to the forefront of national defense and critical infrastructure.
Enhancing National Security Through Advanced Technology
This contract is part of the Department of the Air Force’s Open Topic SBIR/STTR program, which supports small businesses in developing technologies that enhance national security. Xairos’ QTT technology stands out for its unparalleled precision, achieving sub-nanosecond accuracy—1,000 times better than conventional methods. Moreover, its secure architecture offers robust resistance to spoofing and jamming, essential qualities in today’s interconnected world.
Building a Resilient Timing Network
The proposed solution is not just groundbreaking for defense; it holds immense potential for telecommunications, financial systems, and power grids. By creating a resilient global timing network, Xairos aims to mitigate risks and enhance reliability in critical sectors. This initiative aligns with SpaceWERX’s mission to expedite the adoption of innovative technologies for operational readiness.
Strength Through Integration
This collaboration not only advances space-based timing infrastructure but also strengthens the defense industrial base. By integrating cutting-edge quantum and optical technologies into practical applications, Xairos and its partners contribute to the modernization of national security and critical infrastructure.
