Of the unlikely places to make a first appearance, Laura ended up in a comic unrelated to the X-Men. Laura Kinney, X-23, debuts in NYX #3.

The character, a female clone of Wolverine, was first known in the animated television series, X-Men: Evolution, on August 2, 2003. Her arrival in the comics medium would not take long.
It was in the 7-part miniseries that Laura Kinney debuted.
Recently, Marvel had named artist Joe Quesada as editor-in-chief. The publishing house was fighting against a strong economic crisis that had led it to bankruptcy. With the new direction in the editorial part, new products arrived.

The company sought to offer comics to all types of audiences, separating its markets through classifications. For the first time, they directed comics specifically at an adult audience. The miniseries edited by CB Cebulski belongs to this sector, written by Quesada himself and with art by Joshua Middleton in the first four installments and, in the last three, by Robert Teranishi.
Some new Marvel comics were a bit strange, such as NYX and other miniseries involving mutants, such as District X, Hellfire Club, Muties, and a new version of X-Factor. Likewise, some comics underwent transformations towards something more mature such as Cable and X-Force. The first became Soldier X and the second became X-Statix.
Under this guideline, NYX was generated, whose first issue was published on October 8, 2003.
X-23 comes to the comics.
It was two months later, on December 10, 2003, that we saw Laura Kinney for the first time in comics (although she was only given the name X-23 at that time), in NYX #3.
The story is about a teenager and a high school teacher who team up to save their lives. As the days go by, they add allies. One of them is X-23, a young prostitute who finds herself involved in a homicide of which she is innocent.
What seems like a normal teenage story turns out to be an adventure of mutants who become friends and find refuge in the sector known as District X.
This miniseries, NYX’s first, is identified with the subtitle “Wannabe,” which refers to someone who pretends to be someone or something else, without success.
