A recent “WWE Raw” broadcast featured a graphic advertising a match for the upcoming “Worlds End” show, revealing a perhaps significant development. While it was previously announced that Vikingo would face Chad Gable, the graphic indicated that the match would be for the AAA Mega Championship. However, the current champion is Alberto Del Rio, who is scheduled to defend his title against Vikingo at an AAA event on May 31, just one week before “Worlds Collide” on June 7. Commentary during the broadcast also confirmed that the match was for the AAA Mega Championship.

The situation raises questions, especially considering WWE’s pending purchase of AAA. One of the main points of discussion has been whether WWE would consider re-signing Del Rio, who has faced accusations of domestic abuse towards his former fiance, Saraya, an ex- WWE and AEW star. in 2020, he was charged with kidnapping and second degree sexual assault, although the charges were later dismissed in 2021 due to a missing witness. Initial reports suggested that he had signed with WWE following the acquisition,but this remains uncertain as the sale of AAA has not been finalized.

Vikingo currently holds the record for the longest reign as Mega champion, with 833 days. Previously, AEW Intercontinental Champion Kenny Omega held the title for 765 days before vacating it in 2021 due to an injury. Vikingo then won the vacant title, marking the beginning of his historic reign.
