Born in Montreal,Canada,Ivan Koloff,known as “the Russian Bear,” etched his name in wrestling lore by ending Bruno Sammartino’s historic seven-year reign as WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation,now WWE) Champion in 1971. Koloff masterfully portrayed a villainous character, drawing intense heat from audiences throughout his career. His victory over Sammartino remains one of the most shocking upsets in wrestling history.

Koloff’s defeat of Sammartino was a pivotal moment, forever changing the landscape of professional wrestling.
