The Wuxi International Tennis Centre was the battleground for the thrilling conclusion of the Wuxi Amateur Tennis Open’s March singles tournament on March 30, 2025. The event drew 106 competitors, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for tennis within the Wuxi community. The tournament was marked by intense matches between seasoned players and the surprising success of newcomers, injecting fresh energy into the local tennis landscape.
Clash of the Titans: Seeded Players Battle for Supremacy
Pre-tournament favorites Zhang henghui, Zhu Tingcheng, and zhao Junyan were expected to dominate, forming a formidable “championship tier.” however, an unexpected turn of events saw Liu Qiang withdraw, paving the way for Zhu Tingcheng to advance directly to the finals.


The final match was a rollercoaster, with Zhu Tingcheng staging a remarkable comeback after losing the frist two sets. He ultimately triumphed with a 6-2 victory, securing his first amateur championship title, while Zhang Henghui claimed the runner-up position.
New Blood Emerges: Underdogs Make their Mark
Among the 30 players participating in the Open for the first time, Li Yusheng from Yixing stood out. Defying expectations, Li Yusheng navigated a challenging group, defeating two seeded players to reach the top 16 before being stopped in the quarterfinals by Zhao Junyan.

Yu Zheng, a 16-year-old female player and previous weekly competition champion, continued her extraordinary run.Seeded 19th, she reached the top 8, earning praise for her resilience and mental fortitude on the court. According to recent data,participation of young female athletes in amateur tennis has increased by 15% in the last year,indicating a positive trend in the sport’s inclusivity.

About the Wuxi Amateur Tennis Open
The Wuxi Amateur Tennis Open, guided by the Jiangsu Tennis association and Wuxi Sports Federation, and sponsored by the Wuxi Economic Development Zone Management Committee, is operated by Wuxi Huafa Sports Operations Management Co., Ltd. The tournament employs a three-tier system—weekly, monthly, and finals—to encourage broad participation. To date, the Open has hosted three monthly and 19 weekly competitions, attracting over 500 players aged 10 to 60. Emphasizing inclusivity, the Open welcomes participants from all backgrounds, fostering a shared tennis ecosystem.
