the Importance of Vaccination: Protecting Individuals and Communities
Vaccinations are a cornerstone of public health, offering a proven method for preventing infectious diseases.
Vaccinations represent a universally recognized tool capable of preventing infectious diseases for protecting not only the individual, but also of the community. In the last 50 years, thanks to the global vaccination campaigns, it has been possible to eradicate diseases such as smallpox and guaranteeing the survival of millions of children worldwide; However, the risk of contracting infectious diseases preventable with vaccine is not a prerogative of childhood. The priority objective is to be able to protect all citizens especially the fragile categories.

Global vaccination campaigns have successfully eradicated diseases like smallpox and considerably reduced the incidence of others, saving countless lives. However, vaccine-preventable diseases remain a threat, highlighting the ongoing need for robust immunization programs.
According to the WHO, vaccination currently prevents 3.5-5 million deaths every year from diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, influenza, and measles. Increased efforts to improve vaccination coverage could save millions more.
Focus on Vulnerable Populations
ASST Lodi is prioritizing the vaccination of fragile patients, the elderly, and individuals with multiple health conditions, especially those undergoing oncological treatment.
we have to work priority on the raising awareness of fragile patients, the elderly, those who have more pathologies and above all the oncological: for them, it means to reduce the possibilities of infection and also mortality: the fire of Sant’Antonio, such as, can have serious consequences and on this front you have to do more as if many are still vaccinating against the influence, They vaccin against pneumococcus and even less are those who vaccinate against the Herpes Zoster.
