World No. 1 Arina Sabalenka will not play on mixed couples at this year’s US Open, despite the one million dollar prize pool for the winners.
The representative of Belarus had declared participation in tandem with Grigor Dimitrov, but a Bulgarian injury did not allow him to participate in both single and couples.
There was a lot of talk between the two, and he would undoubtedly arouse the greatest interest among fans, but unfortunately this time he would not come true.
Sabalenka was asked if she would choose a new partner for the tournament, but she is adamant that she remains loyal to Grigor and wants to express support for him.
Among the most stars of the US Open will be Carlos Alcaras with Emma Radukanu, Taylor Fritz with Elena Ribakina, as well as Yanik Siner with Emma Navaro.
“Several people asked me to play with them, but I don’t think it would happen,” Sabalenka answered a question after winning Spanish Jessica Buzas Maneiro on the semifinals in Cincinnati.
So far, Sabalenka and Dimitrov have played mixed couples, but only in the World Tennis League demonstration tournament in Dubai in 2022.
