Rebels Fall to Tritons in Close 3-2 Contest
The UNLV women’s soccer team faced a tough challenge against UC San Diego,ultimately losing 3-2 in a Sunday afternoon match at Triton Soccer Stadium.The Rebels fought hard, responding twice to UC San Diego’s goals, but couldn’t secure the win.
Senior midfielder Elisa corvalan leveled the score for the Rebels (0-2-1) in the 14th minute with a header, following a corner kick from senior captain TIOR REARDON. Later, junior forward Cassie Villanueva scored in the 50th minute, assisted by junior midfielder Tania Tapia and senior forward Cadence whitley. The game remained tied at 2-2 for 28 minutes until the Tritons (1-1-1) scored the decisive goal in the 79th minute.
Corvalan and villanueva both scored their first goals of the season in the match. This was also Corvalan’s first goal while playing for the Rebels.
Despite the loss, the Rebels maintained equal posession with UCSD and closely matched their shot count, with 14 attempts compared to the Tritons’ 15. Junior forward Alyssa White had a near-scoring opportunity in the 27th minute,followed by freshman midfielder Scarlette Druian in the 29th minute,and sophomore midfielder Mauri Ashman in the 86th minute.
