Women’s Champions League: Paris FC & Madrid Draw 1-1

by Archynetys World Desk

Our Parisian girls came close to victory tonight at Real Madrid, conceding a last-second equaliser (1-1) on matchday 3ᵉ of the league phase of the Women’s Champions League.

A frustrating but encouraging result against one of the European powers of the moment.

A conquering Paris FC

Against a Real Madrid side that dominated possession, our players put in a performance full of character. Organized, disciplined and dangerous on the counter-attack, they opened the scoring just before the break.

In the 41ᵉ minute, Lorena Azzaro coolly converted a penalty awarded by Sheika Scott, who was mowed down in the box after a sharp breakthrough.

Paris FC then held firm, defensively solid and buoyed by an imperious Mylène Chavas in goal.

Real snatch an equaliser

Real Madrid stepped up the pressure after the break, multiplying their attacks. Despite several decisive interventions from Chavas and a compact Parisian block, the Madrilenians finally found the breakthrough… at the end of added time.

In the 90+8ᵉ minute, Caroline Weir took a loose ball past the Parisian keeper to snatch the point.

A frustrating but promising point

Sandrine Soubeyrand’s players may have regrets about the scenario, but they can also be proud of the content: rigor, solidarity and attacking realism.

The draw allows Paris FC to continue their progress in a highly competitive phase and prove, once again, that they are a force to be reckoned with in Europe.

The next game is against Benfica Lisbon at the Jean Bouin stadium on November 19 at 9pm.

Come and cheer on our Parisian girls!

I take my place
