Wisconsin won for the second time in three games, upsetting then-No. 21 Illinois 27-10 at home last week. The Badgers never trailed and put the game away on Darrion Dupree’s four-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter. Dupree finished with 131 yards and two scores on 17 carries, with his other touchdown run an 84-yarder in the third quarter. Vinny Anthony II also had a touchdown run as Wisconsin rolled up 209 rushing yards. Darryl Peterson had three of the defense’s five sacks, forced a fumble, and broke up two passes.
Minnesota blew a 15-point second-half lead last week, losing to Northwestern at Chicago’s Wrigley Field on a field goal with 53 seconds remaining. Drake Lindsey threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns, three to Javon Tracy, while Darius Taylor logged a rushing touchdown. The defense allowed 525 yards, including 220 on the ground, while the Golden Gophers managed just 59 rushing yards. Le’Meke Brockington’s eight-yard scoring grab with 8:20 remaining tied the game at 35-35 after Northwestern erased a 28-13 deficit.
The Wisconsin-Minnesota rivalry is the most played in FBS, with 134 meetings, and is deadlocked at 63-63-8 after the Golden Gophers took a 24-7 road victory last season. Minnesota has won three of the last four battles for the Axe.
