Winter diseases in children.. How do you protect your children from cold and influenza?
As temperatures drop in the winter, respiratory viruses become active and find children an easy environment to spread, especially with weak immunity at early ages. Between regular colds and seasonal influenza, concern is renewed every year about the best methods of prevention, and how the family can reduce the chances of infection and protect their children from complications that may be annoying or sometimes dangerous. Therefore, we review in this report “How to protect your children from colds and influenza.”
Preventing colds in children
The Ministry of Health and Population provided a set of preventive instructions to protect children from colds and influenza during the winter, reviewing basic tips to reduce the chances of infection, including keeping the child warm while supporting his immune system by providing healthy, balanced food rich in essential vitamins and nutrients.
Among the tips was to pay attention to hydrating the body by encouraging the child to drink sufficient amounts of fluids, especially water and warm drinks, as good hydration helps replace lost fluids and relieve congestion, in addition to adhering to personal hygiene by washing hands well with soap and water after touching various surfaces, to reduce the transmission of viruses.
Make sure to wear masks
Avoid contact with people infected with respiratory viruses as much as possible, while making sure to wear masks when necessary. This is among the advice provided by the Ministry of Health and Population to prevent colds and influenza.
In addition to this, there are some other instructions that mothers must follow to protect the child, including ensuring that they eat a sound and healthy diet, wearing warm clothes to avoid feeling cold, as well as monitoring the child’s health continuously, according to what Dr. Magdy Badran, an immunology expert, told Al-Watan.
