Although the ISOs of Microsoft operating systems include all updates, using them still represents a security risk

El mud Bob Pony released ISO files that allow you to install Windows 7 y Windows Vista on contemporary computers or virtual machines. While these unofficial versions include all support updates released through 2026 as part of the Premium Assurance program, using the old ones operating systems can put everyday PCs at serious risk.
It is not an exaggeration to say that Windows 11 did not meet the expectations of many users. The most recent version of the system presents numerous technical and performance problems that have already raised eyebrows in the community. The last straw is that patches make the situation worse by introducing new and annoying bugs.
It’s cliché to say that things in the past were better, but that turns out to be particularly true with previous iterations of software. Microsoft. Windows Vista and Windows 7 hold a special place in the hearts of thousands, and now they’re back in an unconventional way. Of course, installing them can be a risky bet.
More about Windows

Windows Vista and Windows 7 are back in full 2026
In soilwe already talked about the work of Bob Pony, a renowned preservation enthusiast who earned the applause of the community thanks to his work related to Windows. His most recent project represents a stroke of nostalgia for hundreds of users.
Thanks to the efforts of this tech expert, both Windows Vista and Windows 7 are unofficially back. As we talked previously, the modder created ISO files that facilitate the installation of both software on contemporary computers. In this way, it is possible to once again use these systems on modern PCs or virtual machines.
Bob Pony made his work available to the community. Windows Vista can be downloaded through this link, while Windows 7 is available here. It is possible to configure both programs directly on the system of our choice, but you can also use the ISO images to create a bootable drive through a DVD or one USB memory.

Microsoft removed the official support for these operating systems a long time ago, which means they are outdated in terms of functions, features and security protections. However, the modder went further and offered the “definitive” versions of both programs.
Although older Microsoft operating systems have patches published until January 2026there is a reason why concerned users should be responsible and avoid installing both softwares on their daily use PCs.
Older versions of Windows are not a good option
Bob Pony confirms that he installed all security updates for Windows Vista, which also includes those released through the preservation program Premium Assurance Updates during recent years. The latest patch was officially released in January 2026, marking the end of an era.
In case you forgot, it is wise to remember that Premium Assurance is a program that Microsoft used to keep its older operating systems, such as Windows Vista, active. It could be compared with the initiative of Extended Security Updates for Windows 10.
Versions created by the modder include all performance improvements and security updates. The fact that they are already part of the program eliminates the need to manually search for, download and install each patch released through the warranty program.

However, even though the ISO files include the definitive editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7, using both operating systems can put everyday computers between a rock and a hard place. Because Microsoft ended official support many years ago, systems were left more vulnerable to malware and others cyber attacks which are not covered by the latest updates.
Computers that use any of these programs will be especially exposed when connecting to the Internet, using social networks, playing online titles and installing files. To prevent the PC from being the target of viruses and malicious software, it is recommended to install operating systems in a virtual machine to work in a safe space or, failing that, use a secondary computer that does not include sensitive information.
