After installing Windows 11 KB5055523 (24H2) update to Windows 11, several users have noticed that they suddenly received a mysterious “Inetpub” folder on the same storage device on which the operating system is installed.
It is currently unclear why the folder was created, but Windows Latest writes that a possibility is that Windows 11 KB5055523 (24H2) update contained changes for the IIS component (Internet Information Services).
This may, consciously or unconsciously, have activated IIS, or an IIS function, automatically for a limited time, which has automatically created a folder.
Microsoft itself has not commented on it all. The “Inetpub” folder itself is empty and can be erased without any consequences.
