Wilton Sampaio: Referee for Nacional vs. Millonarios Match

by Archynetys World Desk

The Brazilian and World Cup winner Wilton Sampaio has been designated by Conmebol to be the referee of Nacional vs Millonarios this Wednesday in Medellín for the Preliminary Phase of Conmebol Sudamericana 2026, a match that will be played from 7:30 pm at the Atanasio Girardot with a TV signal on ESPN and Directv and in audio in our live multi-transmission from the BBC on AV19 with Calle 120.

This will be Millonarios’ second official match with Wilton Sampaio as referee. The only precedent was also against a Colombian rival, also as a visitor and also for Conmebol Sudamericana. Was the visit to Deportivo Cali for the return of the second phase of the 2020 edition, on November 4. In the 90s it was a 2-1 blue victory but on penalties (Cali had won by that same score in Bogotá) the blue team lost the shootout in seven penalties and was eliminated. That day, Sampaio took out six cards, two for the “sugar bowl” and four for Millos.

Wilton Sampaio’s resume is pretty good. He was a referee at the last club World Cup, held in the United States, and he was also a referee at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, in 2022 (). In addition to experience in Conmebol tournaments.
