The latest trailer for wicked: For Good, featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, teases the evolving relationship between Glinda and Elphaba. The film is slated to premiere in theaters on nov. 21.

The trailer opens with a tense meeting between Glinda and Elphaba on a balcony. “Ther’s no going back,” Elphaba declares. “This is between the Wizard and I.” The preview also includes glimpses of Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), seemingly leading the search for Elphaba, and a scene hinting at a marriage between Fiyero and Glinda, adding layers to their intertwined relationships.

Further teasers show Dorothy and her companions encountering the Wizard, whose manipulations turn the people of Oz against Elphaba. The trailer culminates by emphasizing the core bond between Elphaba and Glinda. “You’re the only friend I ever had,” Elphaba confesses to Glinda, who responds that Elphaba was “the one that mattered.”

Wicked: For Good directly follows the events of last year’s film, picking up after Erivo’s performance of “Defying Gravity.” The song underscores Elphaba’s decision to defy Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) and the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum) upon discovering their exploitation of animals and their intent to misuse her magical abilities.

This choice sets Elphaba against Grande’s Glinda, with For Good charting their transformation into the characters known from The Wizard of Oz: The Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

While “Defying Gravity” remains a signature piece from the original Wicked musical, For Good will showcase several Act Two highlights, including the duet between Elphaba and Glinda that shares the sequel’s title. Other notable songs include Elphaba’s “No Good Deed” and the duet “As Long as You’re Mine” featuring Elphaba and Fiyero.

“You’re the only friend I ever had,” Elphaba confesses to Glinda, who responds that Elphaba was “the one that mattered.”

For Good will also introduce two original songs for glinda and Elphaba, crafted by grande and Erivo in collaboration with Stephen Schwartz, the original composer. Erivo described her song as “so special to me,” noting, “When we filmed it, the entire crew was in tears. I hope audiences are ready – it’s a song that speaks to the heart of who Elphaba is.”

Earlier this year,Grande revealed that Glinda’s new song accompanies a “pivotal moment” in her character’s growth. “It shows a side of her we’ve never seen before. In the stage show, this transformation happens offstage. But in the movie, we get to see her make the decision that defines who she is. It’s a privilege to sing this song and be the first Glinda to bring it to life.”
