With the most-talked-about WNBA season ever coming to a close, the spotlight has turned to women’s college basketball as the star watch is on. Let’s break down the top 25 players and which teams they play for in ESPN’s preseason top 25 player rankings.
No. 1: JuJu Watkins
JuJu Watkins, a 6-foot-2-inch sophomore, has taken the nation by storm. As the top recruit in her high school class, Watkins managed to surpass expectations during her freshman season, scoring more points than any other freshman in Division I history. She averaged 27.1 points per game, 7.3 rebounds per game, and 3.3 assists per game, making her a walking bucket. With more help around her this season, featuring a key addition Kiki Iriafen, the USC Trojans are favored to reach the Final Four in Tampa, making Watkins the top pick in this year’s rankings.
No. 2: Paige Bueckers
Paige Bueckers, a 6-foot-0-inches redshirt senior, has already showcased her versatility both on offense and defense. Despite playing at a depleted UConn Huskies team, Bueckers propelled them back to the Final Four last season while also improving her defensive play. The urgency to win a national championship is high for Bueckers, who plays with underclassmen and less experienced players. There are high expectations for her this skin.
