(Geneva) The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, defended the United States’s main health agency on Sunday, undermined by the Trump administration and shaken by the dismissal at the end of August of its director.

“No institution is perfect and continuous improvements are necessary to ensure that the most recent scientific conclusions are applied in real time in the face of emerging challenges. But the work of American CDCs has been invaluable and must be protected! Said Mr. Tedros in a press release.

In a few months, the Minister of Health of the Trump Administration, Robert Kennedy Jr, carried out a profound overhaul of American health agencies and vaccination policy, dismissing renowned experts, restricting access to COVVI-19 vaccines or suppressing funds for the development of new vaccines.

Susan Monarez was dismissed after less than a month in office. She assured, through her lawyers, to have been pushed outside, in particular of her refusal to validate “non -scientific and dangerous directives” desired by the Minister.

Mr. Tedros underlined the “close and long -standing partnership” between WHO and CDC.

Nine former CDC managers shot the alarm sound on the Trump administration policy on Monday, saying that Mr. Kennedy was “endangering the health of each American”.

A few hours after taking office in January, Donald Trump signed a decree withdrawn from WHO the United States, which traditionally were the greatest donor of the organization. The withdrawal process takes a year.
