The “White Horse Theater” stands as europe’s largest English-speaking theater company dedicated to educational outreach. Each year, they perform for approximately 400,000 students across German-speaking countries, bringing classic and contemporary English plays to life. Their performance at Geschwister-Scholl school was made possible through the generous support of the Lions Club Leutkirch and Volksbank Allgäu-Oberschwaben, highlighting the community’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange and language acquisition.
Beyond the Bard: Engaging with English Language and culture
Wolfgang Veller, a subject teacher, emphasized the pedagogical goals behind the performance: With the play we wanted to convey English in a different and entertaining way. This motivates our students in their process of acquiring foreign language. As a European school, we are also concerned with enabling our students to contact other Europeans.
Following the 90-minute performance, students engaged in a lively bilingual Q&A session with the actors, delving into themes from Romeo and Juliet, exploring the realities of touring as a performer, and comparing life in Great Britain and Germany. This interactive element provided invaluable opportunities for practical language application and cross-cultural understanding.
