WhatsApp has just rolled out a series of features designed for the end-of-year holidays. On the program: automatic voice messages in the event of a missed call, more efficient AI and several improvements that bring the Meta application closer to the standards established by iMessage and FaceTime on iPhone. An update which shows that messaging is trying to catch up with the Apple ecosystem.
Voicemail is finally here
WhatsApp introduces a system that looks a lot like what we’ve always known on our iPhones: leave a message when someone doesn’t respond. The difference? You can now record a voice or video note directly from the missed call screen, with a single gesture. The idea is strongly reminiscent of the operation of FaceTime which already allows you to leave video messages, but WhatsApp generalizes the concept to all types of calls.
This approach simplifies the experience: no need to switch to the conversation to send a traditional voice. Everything is done at the moment the call fails, which really streamlines daily use.
Improvements for group chats
Group video calls gain clarity with automatic focus on the person speaking, a handy feature during large family conversations. WhatsApp is also adding reactions during voice chats, allowing you to encourage someone without cutting them off.
On the creativity side, Meta AI is strengthened with the integration of models like Midjourney and Flux to generate more convincing images. The application even offers to animate your photos into short videos, perfect for energizing your statuses during the holidays.
Finally, the computer version (Mac, Windows and Web) has a centralized “Media” tab that makes it easier to find files across all your conversations. Link previews have also been redesigned to make discussions more readable.
