Jakarta –
Have you ever been invited to join a WhatsApp group, but were confused because you didn’t understand the context of the previous conversation? Don’t worry, now you don’t need to be confused anymore because WhatsApp has released the Group Message History feature.
As the name suggests, this new feature allows admins and group members to share message history when inviting new members. WhatsApp says this is one of the most requested features by users.
“We are very enthusiastic about introducing Group Message History, a feature that makes group chats more enjoyable without interruptions,” wrote WhatsApp in an official statement received by detikINET, Sunday (22/2/2026).

“Now, admins and group members can choose to send the latest messages to new members so they can quickly follow the conversation,” he continued.
Before this feature was launched, new members in WhatsApp groups usually asked for screenshots or forwarded certain messages so they could follow the most up-to-date conversations in the group.
Thanks to this new feature, WhatsApp users who want to add new members to a group will see the option to share the last messages in the group, ranging from the last 25 to the last 100 messages.
When an admin or member shares the group message history, everyone in the group will be notified as a form of transparency. Shared messages will have a timestamp and sender information, and will look different than regular messages.
WhatsApp emphasizes that group message history will not be shared automatically. New message history will be shared when members or group admins choose to share it when adding new members.
Admins also have the option to disable the message history feature for their groups. This option will be useful to keep sensitive conversations private.
WhatsApp emphasizes that messages shared via the Group Message History feature are still protected by end-to-end encryption, like private and group messages in general.
The Group Message History feature is starting to be rolled out to all WhatsApp users around the world in stages. This feature will be available in the latest versions of the WhatsApp application for Android and iOS.
