MESAGNE – Yesterday a series of messages spread on WhatsApp generated panic among parents of boys and girls in Mesagne. This is what happened following a family’s story, reported by them both at the police station and via messaging, with the invitation to share and disclose.
According to the story that spread quickly, a man attempted to “force” the door of a car with a child inside. And again in the message, we read that the intent (presumed and deduced exclusively by the family) was perhaps to reach the minor or alternatively to steal something from the car.
The alleged incident occurred on Friday afternoon (February 20). The child’s father would have temporarily gotten out of his car to make some purchases in a shop, leaving his son in the parked car. Upon returning, the same child said that a gentleman approached and tried to open the vehicle. Father and son therefore went to the police station in Mesagne, where the minor allegedly made an identikit of the person. The officers have already given a face and name to the man, based on the minor’s statements.
In a short time, via WhatsApp, panic spread among many citizens of Mesagne, especially parents. But at the moment there are no elements to certify what happened and above all to understand its extent. Even if there was an approach, as written in the message spread on WhatsApp, one cannot be sure of the man’s intentions. This is because the circumstances can be traced back exclusively to the child’s testimony and perception of what happened.
Obviously, this does not mean that we can lower our guard and that it is not appropriate to remain on alert, especially given the latest events at a national level (see the attempted kidnappings of children in Bergamo and Caivano). But these are different episodes in context and situation. Certainly, the spread of messages aroused much fear in the Mesagna community, creating news in itself. Especially for those who do not have the tools of knowledge to rationalize what happened, now convinced (wrongly certainly) that there is someone around in Mesagne desperately searching for children. In any case, the police are working as always to monitor and monitor the situation.
