It can happen again and again on the popular messenger WhatsApp scam come. This also ensures that experts and authorities continually deal with the different approaches. One of them is currently making headlines.
WhatsApp scam: This group is dangerous
To be more precise, as BaFin announced in a recent announcement, it is a group called “Baird Capital” that has apparently been up to mischief via messenger for some time. Their variant of WhatsApp fraud involves guiding users into their group and then getting them to invest. This includes, among other things, classic financial services, but also crypto and securities offerings.
In itself, the practice of defrauding users of their money in this way is nothing new. What is special, however, is the camouflage that the criminals use: they probably gave themselves the name mentioned on purpose, as there is a large investment company in the USA with the same name. “Robert W. Baird & Co. Inc.” However, as far as the Federal Agency is aware, he has no connections to the group on WhatsApp.

The group apparently uses not only the name of the investment company for its WhatsApp fraud, but also the identity of a certain Thomas Becker, who is said to be in charge of it. According to BaFin, however, no one with this name and a connection to the investment group is registered as a stock broker in Germany.
It is apparently not yet entirely clear to what extent and extent the criminals have already deprived investors of their money. However, BaFin strongly warns against being included in a group with a similar name. If this still happens, you can simply report the WhatsApp scam when you leave. In this way, the communication platform is also tracked down. This makes it less likely that criminals will find more victims in the future.
