A Waukee woman was arrested Friday after allegedly whipping her child with a phone charging cord.

Adeng Choul Leek Deng, 37, of 1239 N.W. Williamsburg Lane, Waukee, was charged with child endangerment-bodily injury.

The incident occurred about 11 p.m. Friday outside a residence in the 1200 block of N.W. Williamsburg Lane, where officers of the Waukee Police Department saw a child “run out of a neighboring house and run west,” according to court records.

The officers made contact with the minor victim, who was “crying and very upset,” and the child told the officers that her mother “got mad and hit her with a cell phone” and struck her “with a phone charger across the back,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “a minor laceration” on her “forearm/wrist area that was bleeding” as well as “welts and marks across her back” and “more lacerations on her chest area,” according to court records.

A witness told the officers that he saw Deng allegedly “hit his sister with a phone charger,” according to court records.

Deng was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 6 in Dallas County District Court.
